1. ACCEPTED A JOB OFFER!!!

2. Put away the food I cooked on Tuesday and dumped the resulting scraps into the compost bin.

I made a start on unfucking my sleep schedule last night, and hopefully I will be able to get it fully back on track by Monday. With a bit of luck, this will give me the spoons to get some necessary stuff done over the weekend. *crosses fingers*

I didn't post about this yesterday because I was waiting for a confirmation email, but...

I HAVE A JOB!!!

It is a part-time office thing (~25 hrs/wk) at a local rental company, so it's not absolutely ideal, but the hourly rate is reasonable, the work itself sounds like a good mix of routine and interesting variables, and the location is easy to get to. I start Tuesday morning.

I will still be drawing a smidge of unemployment compensation, since that's based on a four-day week and I'll only be working three days a week. I will also, obviously, continue to look for either a better full-time job or a complementary part-time position.

But oh my god, I HAVE A JOB.

...

...

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go collapse in relief for a little bit. :)

1. One job application. I don't really care about this one, but I have to do three job-search activities per week for my unemployment insurance, even if I have no real intention of following up on them. And, you know, if this company happens to take me up on my offer, it wouldn't be the end of the world or anything. *shrug*

2. Edited somebody else's NFE fic. It is a good fic; I think y'all are going to enjoy it. :)

3. Finished reading and commenting on every work in the Ladystuck Remix main collection and treats collection. Go me! (Once again, I advise anyone with an interest in female-character-centric Homestuck fics and art to go check those out. Look through the prior collections as well while you're there!)

4. Tweaked my Tumblr theme so reblogs no longer automatically display in all-italics. That had been bugging me for years and tonight I was finally fed up enough to fix it.

5. Cooked a batch of rice -- by which I mean two cups' worth -- most of which will go into my freezer for storage.

6. Started a batch of pot roast, which will cook overnight and should finish up around 8 or 9am.

7. Responded to and cleared out all comments-needing-replies from my various inboxes, because today I had the spoons for that kind of social interaction. :)

1. Tested my printer, discovered the ink had gone all weird, and therefore went to the public library to print copies of my resume and reference list. I have a recurring problem with ink, probably because I only use my printer about once every three or four months; this means that when I want to use it, the ink has often dried up and I have to buy replacement cartridges long before I should need to judging by number of pages printed.

I have a job interview at 11:30am today. It's not the greatest job in the world, and is also sadly part-time rather than full-time, but this is one of those cases where something is clearly better than nothing, so.

I did some prep with Vicky yesterday during our phone conversation, I have looked the company up online and spent an hour or so poking around their website, I know the relevant bus schedule to get me there, and I think I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be.

Now please excuse me while I indulge in five minutes of distilled panic to get it out of my system. :)

oh god the sky is going to fall, they'll hate me, they'll laugh me out of the building, they'll ask questions and I'll go blank and start drooling, my pad and tampon will fail catastrophically all at once and I'll leave bloodstains on their furniture, I will turn out to have grievously offended at least one of the interviewers in the past and they'll be even more offended when I don't remember doing it, they'll ask me detailed questions about PowerPoint, I'll forget to ask their names, I'll forget to offer copies of my resume, I'll smile too much, I won't smile enough, I'll have horrible sweat stains all down my back and under my arms, my shoes will disintegrate in the middle of the conversation, I will spontaneously combust and run out of the building in flames, my glasses will fall apart, my pen will explode in my hand when I try to take notes, they'll hate me they'll hate me they'll hate me

...

Okay, done now.

---------------

ETA: It went pretty well, I think, and I remembered to send thank-you notes to hopefully reinforce my good impression. :)

1. Applied to two jobs. One emailed back an interview request, and I have set up an appointment for Monday morning. It's not the most exciting job in the world, and is also sadly part-time rather than full-time, but hey, something is better than nothing! And it's always nice to get any kind of response after what feels like eons of sending applications into the void. I checked bus schedules to make sure I'll get there in plenty of time, and will poke around the company website tomorrow. (...I should also make sure my laptop is talking to my printer, since I'll want to bring some copies of my resume. Right. That goes on tomorrow's list.)

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go drink some box wine. :)

Stuff done Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday:

1. Worked more shifts at the church recycling sale: 9am-12pm on Sunday, and 10am-2pm on Monday. The sale runs three days, usually: Saturday is full price (subject to occasional negotiation), Sunday is half price, and Monday is bag day. This used to mean that every item was knocked down to 10 cents, but that proved inefficient for many reasons so a couple years ago we switched to a new policy: everything is 'free,' but please make a donation at the door as you leave. This both saves time and, somewhat ironically, earns us more money. :)

What staff do on Monday is sort of float around the various departments to help people find boxes and packing material, help them carry heavy loads to the door/their cars, and move things up from the floor to the display tables as items disappear. Then around 1pm, we start breaking down the tables and moving all unclaimed items down to the parlor for various disposal methods. Fabric scraps, for example, go to Sew Green. I believe books get passed on to the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Some things may go to the Salvation Army store. And a bunch just goes straight to the dump, because the cycle of reuse is not eternal.

Anyway, I floated mostly in housewares and the holiday/crafts room, I dismantled several plastic display tables and moved them to basement storage, and I helped pack and move stuff from both linens and holiday/crafts to the parlor. I also made off with the following items: two decorative cushions for my sofa and armchair, a short glass tumbler to replace the one I dropped on my kitchen floor last year, a backup Corningware grab-it bowl lid, a set of magnetic plastic clothespins for use in my kitchen, and a cheap-ass tiny electric sewing machine, complete with instruction manual. It only has the two bobbins and one needle currently attached (because somebody nabbed the box of spares that were meant to go with it), but I get really annoyed at hand-stitching hems and it's hard to argue with 'free' as an asking price. (I donated $5 for the lot.)

Stuff done so far today:

1. Worked two shifts at the recycling sale, both of them in the Holiday/Crafts room. (We jam the two categories together because neither can fill a room alone.) I now have a concrete schedule for what I will be doing Sunday and Monday: namely, Sunday I will staff Housewares from 9am-12pm, and Monday I will be sitting/standing outside to sort of generally keep an eye on things from 10am-2pm.

2. Poked around once I was relieved from duty, and bought a replacement wallet for when my current one falls apart, a box of Christmas cards so I won't have to spend twenty bucks on an identical product come November, and a replacement pajama t-shirt for when my current ones inevitably fall apart. (I am very particular about my pajama t-shirts.) This loot cost me all of $4, and since I found a five-dollar bill somebody forgot to remove from the wallet I just bought... :DDD

3. Hardboiled eight more eggs. I also started a batch of veggie sidedish plus chicken (and slightly tweaked spices) to which I will add rice around, oh, let's say 10pm. I feel very productive on the food front.

4. Applied to Not the IRS for the 2017 tax season.

5. Read and reviewed another Ladystuck Remix fic. I will defeat the archive in the end!

6. Narrowed NFE options down to three. I am leaning toward one of them, but I think I will wait on a final choice until I try some preliminary brainstorming/outlining for each tonight.

And now I am going to take a nap.

Stuff done so far today:

1. Started a batch of veggie sidedish, which should be done around 10pm. I also hardboiled some eggs.

2. Volunteered for the church recycling sale. I am a little unclear what I will actually be doing, as the response got mangled by the coordinator's iPhone autocorrect -- it says, and I quote, "How about Saturday and housewares 830 to 11 or 11 to 2 or him and Sunday we could use some help monocot cashiering and Monday 10 to 2" -- but I will show up to work housewares tomorrow morning and hopefully get clarifications about the rest in person.

3. Started the application process for Not the IRS 2017 tax season... by which I mean I determined that the application website now supports Chrome (yay!) and put the three relevant positions into my job cart to deal with tomorrow.

4. Attempted a new method to combat depression-induced inertia and executive dysfunction, namely, in the morning I will text Vicky one or two things I want to do that day -- specific tasks, with clear endpoints -- and she will text me once or twice later on to remind me and/or ask if I've finished yet. I think this will be helpful, and may improve my productivity on other tasks as well because it's a lot easier to keep going after I get in a groove of doing stuff than it is to get started on that first task.

5. Cleared out the backlog of old reviews/comments I'd been avoiding because they required actual thoughtful responses.

6. Read and reviewed another Ladystuck Remix fic. This leaves me with three to go in the main collection, plus three in the treats collection (and the originals that inspired them). They're all really good stories, but there's a difference between reading just for the hell of it and reading with the intention of leaving a comment that says more than just, "Hey, I liked this."
edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (Default)
Stuff I've done over the past few days:

1. Submitted my unemployment claim. In a week or two, I should know whether or not it was accepted.

2. Packed about 2/3 of what I need to take when I catch a bus to NJ on Wednesday morning. I am going down mostly to pick up Dottie for a stint of dogsitting, but also to watch Richard Strauss's Elektra on one of those Met in HD movie nights with my parents and some of their church friends, because why not.

3. Bought a ticket for the aforementioned bus trip.

4. Cooked a batch of veggie sidedish before the pepper and squash rotted in my fridge. \o/

5. Deep-cleaned three of the burners on my stove because I went into the kitchen to do something completely unrelated, casually squished a couple ants, and then kind of... kept going... after I wiped the squished ants off the stove. *headdesk*

6. Wrote two Cotton Candy Bingo fills. (Thanks for the prompts!)

7. Fought extensively with my next Cotton Candy Bingo fill, which took a wild left turn into AU crossover territory and I have no idea how I'm going to shoehorn part of the prompt scenario back into it. *double headdesk*

8. Deposited Upstairs Neighbors E and T's last check for the sublet of my driveway, which they don't need anymore since they finally sold their old pickup truck. This is both sad (loss of income) and convenient, since I am just about to acquire a minivan for two and a half weeks.

9. Said goodbye to Diagonal Neighbor P, who moved out yesterday. I will miss her adorable puppy. :(

10. Signed up to facilitate my church's high school youth group again next year, since I've had a lot of fun with that this year and I think some continuity will be useful as the kids try to get organized enough (and solvent enough) to eventually host a con.

11. Stuck a suction cup and hook on one of my kitchen windows so I can finally hang up the weird stained-glass thing Susan paid for me to make at the glass studio where she worked a few years back.

12. Tried out a recipe for soupless ramen with egg, which came out fairly well. :)

...

I am only intermittently and idiosyncratically productive, but I do get more done than my depression would like me to think. *wry*
