Master List of Elizabeth Culmer's Fanfiction: Angel Sanctuary
---------------------------------------------

Organization: This list is arranged first by associated story cycles and then by date. Word counts and writing dates are approximations.

Content/Warning Policy: 1) I am not consistent about warnings! I use them when I remember, for a few relatively broad categories of potentially problematic content, but if something is off-page, non-explicit, or generally backgrounded, I probably won't think to note it in the metadata. 2) The things I try to warn for are explicit sex, rape, murder, torture, cannibalism, incest, depression/suicide, familial dysfunction, and occasionally also societal dysfunction (aka dystopia). Sometimes I just slap a general content warning on all my fic for a given fandom and don't label each individual fic. I also don't generally warn for violence, unless the violence in a fic is dramatically out-of-step with the violence in its source canon. 3) I don't use any content rating system unless I'm posting to a site or community that requires or encourages ratings, because I find movie-style ratings counter-intuitive when applied to written fiction, and not particularly useful for anything other than denoting the presence of explicit sex, which I already note in the metadata.

SERIES-SPECIFIC GENERAL CONTENT WARNING: any Angel Sanctuary fanfiction is going to trip a lot of people's squick or discomfort buttons, since the main romantic pairing (Setsuna and Sara) is incestuous. (So are a lot of the subtextual pairings, and even the non-incestuous ones tend to be seriously fucked-up.) Furthermore, the source manga takes a highly negative and/or Gnostic view of Christian ideas about God and heaven. In other words, there are potential religious issues. But if you can get past those qualifications and you don't mind handwaving plot holes (some of which, if I am being honest, you could drive a truck through), it's an emotionally gripping series that raises interesting questions about morality, gender, and the nature of love and other obsessions.

Also, the artwork is very pretty. *evil grin*

Anyway, please note that I will not specifically warn for incest or religious issues, since Angel Sanctuary is built on those two potential squicks. Even if they're not at the forefront of any given story, they're often lurking implicitly in the backstory, the subtler shades of characterization, or the world-building. If those are deal-breakers for you, click away from this page now. Okay? Good.

Quality Rating System: I've marked my favorite stories with asterisks, on a scale of 1 to 4. The more asterisks, the more I like the story. This doesn't necessarily mean that stories without asterisks are bad, just that I don't like them as much. Also, I am not claiming to be an arbiter of taste; you may love stories I dislike, and vice versa. I am just providing a heads-up about the ones that I think are best written and/or most interesting.

Notes: It's hard for me to rate my Angel Sanctuary fanfiction, since most of it is incomplete and it all interlocks. But I am very fond of some parts of "The Transient and the Eternal" so far, and I think "Ephemera" is going to kick ass when it's finished.

Where To Read: As always, if an AO3 version exists, it is definitive. FF.net versions are definitive in the absence of an AO3 version. Journal versions are the equivalent of beta drafts, though the shorter and/or fragmentary works may never be posted anywhere else.

---------------------------------------------

Everything I've written for Angel Sanctuary falls into one continuity sequence. I think that's because it takes so much intellectual effort to handwave and reconcile the manga's plot holes and shaky world-building that I didn't have any energy left to try deliberate AUs.

My Angel Sanctuary fanfiction is primarily an attempt to make sense of canon, and secondarily an exploration of the complicated relationships among three of the main characters: Mudo Setsuna (Alexiel), Mudo Sara (Jibril), and Kira Sakuya (Nanatsusaya/Lucifer). I'm also writing about Belial, but that's mostly an exercise in world-building and gender issues, so I'd include it in 'making sense of canon.' *grin*

The Transient and the Eternal

**The Transient and the Eternal: Kira/Setsuna/Sara, or Lucifer/Alexiel/Jibril, through the changing years and incarnations. What lasts and what falls away?

"The Transient and the Eternal" is a sequence of 30 fics written as theme responses for [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree, using prompt set #1. As of February 2016, 25 of them are finished and posted in beta draft. Eventually I'll finish the remaining 5 fics, edit them, and post the whole collection on AO3. (I may also tidy up some sidestories to clarify the timeline progression.) The fics can all stand alone, though they do occasionally reference each other, as in the running gag about Sailor Pluto.

Everything Else

Debts: (ff.net version) WIP, 3,000 words so far, started Aug. 2006. How many lives separate Alexiel from Setsuna? How many deaths? How many choices? A reincarnation story. Death, murder, violence, gore, rape, torture, war, etc.

"Debts" will have 6 chapters, each with 3 incarnations. I have them mostly planned out; I'm just stuck on historical research and a backlog of other WIPs. Chapter 4 of "Debts" interlocks with "The Transient and the Eternal" during Time, which deals with the death of Alexiel's eleventh human incarnation.

Making a Big Scene: (ff.net version) 800 words, Jan. 2007. One potential reason why Kira's gang hates Setsuna. (This falls between Kisses and Irritating people.) Violence. [Request!fic for [livejournal.com profile] bewize]

**Ephemera: (ff.net version) WIP, 6,000 words so far, started Aug. 2007. Belial in heaven, before the fall. Semi-explicit sex, discussion of body parts, dubious gender roles, violence and gore in future chapters.

Body Memory: (ff.net version) 450 words, March 2009. Setsuna never learned to use a sword. (This falls between Remembering and Hidden.) [15-minute fic]

Cold and Sweet: 200 words, Oct. 2009. God knows everything; that is heaven's catechism. Lucifer denies it. [15-minute fic]
